Alveolar sounds are made by putting the tongue near the alveolar ridge, approximately behind the molars in the mouth. Examples are nap, lack, sat, dog, and stack. These sounds can also have secondary articulations, like the darkening called velarization in call and the puff of air called aspiration in tack.
