General informationEdit

PhonologyEdit

ConsonantsEdit

All true fricatives (i.e. not h) tend to be heavily fricated. The dental fricatives and affricates are truly dental rather than inter-dental, as is the common articulation of dental sounds in English. Coronal consonants are apical. [x] is a possible realization of /χ/ after a front vowel or coronal consonant. [ʀ] and [ʁ] are in free variation. [l] cannot occur in the syllable onset, and there, it becomes [ɮ]. Unaspirated voiceless stops only occur as allophones of voiced stops. Obstruents regressively assimilate voicing to other obstruents immediately following them within the same syllable with the exceptions of [v], [ɮ] and [ʝ]. Word-final obstruents are devoiced.

Schwa is a reduced version of other vowels, primarily short [ʌ]. All vowels can also be phonemically epiglottalized.

AlphabetEdit

PhonotacticsEdit

Syllable structure is (C)(C)(C)(C)(V)(C)(C)(C)(C)(C). Most syllables do have vowels and do not have massive consonant clusters, but syllables without vowels and/or with massive consonant clusters do sometimes occur. A voiced and voiceless obstruent cannot appear next to one another in the same syllable except for the sounds mentioned above in Consonants.
