The city for conlangs

Itrani, or more accurately I-runise ne-Tranon "The language of the Tran", is the language of the Tranon race, and thus the official language of the Itrani Empire and its many dynasties. Used all across lands within the Empire, and also in many kingdoms and states which have been under its immense cultural influence, Itranon is spoken by 125 million people within the domain of the ruling Lein Dynasty, as well as a great number abroad, and is used across the region as the lingua franca of trade.

Itrani belongs to the Anaman-Meidorien language family, a large family consisting of many languages in the Meidorien Valley as well as the southern Itrandimir Subcontinent; as such it is related to many southern languages like Avami and Tivenakari, especially the former, with which it shares around 20% of its vocabulary.

It is also considered the first language in the northern or Meidorien sub-family; in accordance to Itrani legends about a great Northward March, forced by some catastrophe to seek a new home and eventually fighting their way into the Meidorien Valley lands, the language originated in the south, and with the migration of the Tranon into the Meidorien Valley the language family itself spread north, into the Far Plains, and splintered into several more distinct languages.

As for Itrani itself, proof of a southern origin is provided by the abundance of words for plants which did not grow in the Meidorien Valley, instead originating in the vast forests that formed the headwaters of the Anaman; also, many inscriptions and steles bearing ancient Itrani writing have been found and preserved in areas where Avami is presently spoken, whose artistic styles predate or are contemporary with the oldest of steles found in the Meidorien valley region. According to legend "The First King of the Sea-River (The Meidorien) is Sura, who is of silvered blood (ie. royal birth); he inherited his father's naiva (an ancient regal symbol) and his people, but was then without land"; this implies, then, the existence of an Itrani-speaking kingdom even before the days of King Sura, who is said to have ruled for 67 years, and to have begun his rule 1,697 years before the founding of the Empire.

Itrani is an SOV language, with ergative-absolutive alignment. It is an analytical language.

The script of Itrani, known simply as Sakors 'Script', is an abugida, in the same fashion as Devanagari in our world; every symbol for consonants therefore actually serves as a syllable with an inherent vowel, which for Itrani is "e". It is a CV(V) language, meaning that sometimes two vowels can be attached to the same consonant (which makes for a dipthong).
