The letters C, D, F, K, Ñ, P, Q, S, T and X represent two different sounds. The letter always produces the first sound - the second sound is only produced when the letter is between two vowels. Please note that this phenomenon (called consonant gradation) also occurs between different words. However, as the sounds are allophones, you would be understood even if you used the "wrong" sounds.

StressEdit

The primary stress is always on the last syllable of a word stem.

GrammarEdit

NounsEdit

In TLOTN, nouns are declined for ...

  1. their number - singular or plural
  2. their case - active, passive, dative, genetive, oblique

As TLOTN is a fusional language, all of the declensional categories mentioned above are expressed in a single suffix.

Vocalic declensionEdit

Singular Plural Meaning
Active - -x agent of an action
Passive -q -qa patient of an action
Dative -r -ra indirect object
Genetive -d -da possession, quality or comparison
Oblique -ña time, place, manner etc.

Consonantal declensionEdit

Singular Plural Meaning
Active - -e agent of an action
Passive -in -es patient of an action
Dative -il -et indirect object
Genetive -ik -eq possession, quality or comparison
Oblique -ii -ee time, place, manner etc.

As the oblique case is quite vage and can have multiple meanings, it is usually combined with an adposition (all adpositions require the oblique case) to indicate a particular meaning.

AdjectivesEdit

In TLOTN, adjectives are not declined for number or case. However, they are declined for their grade of comparison.

Grade of comparisonEdit

Suffix Meaning
Positive - quality
Comparative -(j)o more of a quality (than)
Superlative -(j)i most of a quality

Please note that the "j" is only inserted if the adjective ends on a vowel.

Please note that the comparative demands a genetive as a reference point.

AdverbsEdit

Adverbs are fromed by adding "-(j)a" to the adjective. Please note that the "j" is only inserted if the adjective ends on a vowel.

VerbsEdit

In TLOTN, verbs are conjugated for ...

  1. their person - first, second or third
  2. their number - singular or plural
  3. their tense - present, past or future
  4. their mood - indicative, subjunctive or imperative
  5. their voice - active or passive

As TLOTN is a fusional language, all of these conjugational categories are expressed in a single suffix. All verbs conjugate regularly and their infinitives end in vowels.
