Assignment of stressEdit

In nouns and free standing particlesEdit

Situations where stress is obligatorily recieved.

Stress is indicated by an acute á, with the exception of

ae, e, ä, ai, and au always receive stress, thus, it is normally left unmarked. The diphtongs have stress simultaneously on both vowels, properly marked, they would be áí and áú.

For example, kailae would be stressed: káíláé

ke would be stressed ké

ë and è never receive stress.

naukën would be stressed náúkën

Monosyllabic particles and syllables starting with an aspirant (th, Th, ph, and kh) always recieve stress. should they contain any ë's or è's (even when they are found in dipthongs), they are converted into á's and á's, respectively, except when followed by a labial/labialized consonant, then an ë becomes an ó

ka would stress to káthëtè would stress to thátè

khëpè would stress to khópè

phëkwè would stress to phókwè

nèkw would stres to nékw

nëkw would stress to nókw

In addition, several dipthongs are given stress based on their origins, for example

late Lokhor tòkòí changes to lëkëí in proto-Metin, the òí dipthong always becomes ëí with an auto-stressed í.

The sound change chart details which dipthongs do this.

Situations in which stress is removed in nouns and particles

There is only one situation in which assigned stress is taken back in nouns and particles.

When three stressed vowels come in a row, like in lágúhó, the middle vowel loses stress, becoming láguhó.

If the vowel having its stress removed is a vowel which always recieves stress, like e, ae, or ä, it changes into another vowel, becomin è, ë, and o, respectively. Dipthongs in this position contract and lose stress (even if they had none to begin with), ai/ëi become è, palatalizing any following consonants  au,ëu become o, labializing any following consonants. oi and eu become ï, ei becomes è, dipthongs starting in i/ï and u have those vowels changed to y and w. äi becoms o, palatalizing the following vowel

kálémú becomes kálèmú

kálaimú becomes kálèmyu

káläimú becomes kálomyú

kálaemú becomes kálèmú

sálautó becomes sálotwó

sákuiTó becomes sákwiTó

sákieTó becomes sákyeTó.
