Why would non-Humans speak Reptigan? And who are these non-Humans?

~Tommy aka Gingertom84

[edit] Why would non-Humans speak Reptigan? And who are these non-Humans?

Gingertom84 asked these questions.

  • Why would non-Humans speak Reptigan?

Because it is the dominant language of the dominant society in their region of space; the most advanced expansionistic group; to wit, the people expanding out from Adpihi.

  • And who are these non-Humans?

This question really belongs in conworld:Species_and_Member_Systems_of_the_Reptigan_Union

I haven't really decided yet. They would be species who can trade with or otherwise co-operate with the people of Adpihi to their mutual advantage. They would either attract and accept the Adpihi humans settling in their home territories, or would be attracted and accepted to settle on Adpihi, or, most likely, would wish to and be welcomed to travel in space to the same places the Adpihi people travel to, usually in their company. This would require that they be economically compatible, and almost surely philosophically or culturally compatible as well; probably biologically nearly-compatible for most of them. Obviously a handy means of communication between these species and Adpihi humans will be a real help. I suggest that each such species "invents" a kind of creole Reptigan which then they can use to communicate with other such species, even when no humans are around. The simplifications and other innovations introduced by these L2 speakers of Reptigan will be the biggest driving force behind the changes from Middle Adpihi to Modern Reptigan.

Do you have some suggestions?
